ANALYST REPORT

Top Trends in Cybersecurity for 2024 | Gartner®

While we’re still in the early half of 2024, some trends from 2023 persist. Generative AI will continue to dominate the security discussion landscape, the cyber talent shortage will continue, and security governance is only ramping up. While these are safe assumptions, Gartner® has done their research to make more specific, substantial predictions for the coming years. With the growth in cloud adoption altering digital ecosystems, decentralization of digital capabilities across enterprises, and the eternal challenge of managing security exposures in the evolving threat environment, the future of cybersecurity will change and evolve to be at the forefront of business more so than it has over the last few years.

Here’s a sneak peek of what Gartner® is predicting:

2025:

  • 10% of businesses will operate a business unit bound to a sovereign data strategy, doubling the costs of the business value
  • Generative AI, being the largest disruption to cyber in decades, will cause a spike in the resources needed to combat it, resulting in over a 15% spend on application security and data security
  • 40% of cybersecurity programs will deploy socio-behavioral principles to influence security culture across the organization (up from <5% in 2021)

2026:

  • Organizations focusing on Continuous Threat Exposure Management will see a two thirds reduction in breaches (nearly 67%)
  • 50% of enterprises will use agile learning as a primary upskilling/reskilling method

2027:

  • 50% of enterprise CISOs will adopt human-centric security practices to minimize cyber-induced friction and maximize control adoption

Get a jump start on the perceived challenges for the year(s) ahead, Gartner®’s recommended solutions, and information on how this could impact your organization.
