Trustwave Security Experts to Compete Against Students in Largest College-Level Cyber Security Competition

CHICAGO (February 25, 2010) - Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, announces that three security experts will participate in the 2010 Northeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (NECCDC), March 5-7, 2010 at the University of Maine.

The NECCDC is a regional qualifier for the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), a 3-day event established in 2004, which provides the largest college-level cyber security competition in the world. Focusing on the operational aspect of managing and protecting an existing network infrastructure, student teams must assume administrative and protective duties for an existing "commercial" network. Security professionals are then tasked with attempting to exploit these systems while student teams work to balance security needs against business needs.

Trustwave security professionals Zack Fasel and Jonathan Claudius have both been selected to the "Red Team," which consists of individuals highly skilled in ethical cyber attack techniques such as penetration testing. Fasel, Claudius and their team will be tasked with penetrating these commercial networks to create as much havoc as possible for the student teams.

Additionally, Nicholas J. Percoco, Senior Vice President of SpiderLabs, Trustwave's advanced security team, will deliver the Keynote address, Analysis of Cybersecurity Incidents in 2009. The presentation will analyze Trustwave's Global Security Report comprised of data gathered from nearly 1900 penetration tests and more than 200 security incident and compromise investigations over the past year and provide both a technical and business impact analysis.

"Trustwave's Global Security Report demonstrates the fundamental insecurities found at organizations large and small throughout the world," says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "This report was published by information security professionals who would have greatly benefited from this type of competition when cultivating their career."
